Preparation of the Area Clear the installation area of all debris, rocks, and old grass. If needed, dig down about 1–2 inches to ensure the artificial grass lays flat. Level the ground using a rake, and make sure the surface is smooth and free from large bumps or dips. 2. Install Landscaping Fabric (Optional) Lay down landscaping fabric (weed barrier) to prevent weeds from growing underneath the turf. This step is optional, but it will ensure the turf remains clean and the area stays weed-free. Make sure the fabric overlaps the edges by about 3–4 inches and secure it with landscaping pins. 3. Measure and Cut Artificial Turf Measure the area to ensure that the turf is cut to the correct length (12 ft. wide and cut to length). Use a utility knife to trim the artificial grass to the exact size needed, taking care to cut straight lines for the edges. 4. Lay the Artificial Turf Unroll the artificial turf carefully onto the prepared area. Ensure that the turf is aligned properly, and the seams between rolls (if applicable) are tight and seamless. If you have multiple pieces, ensure they fit together well and that the fibers are oriented in the same direction. 5. Secure the Turf Depending on your surface, you can either use turf adhesive or nails/staples to secure the edges of the artificial turf. For adhesive: Apply it along the edges of the turf and press it firmly into place. For nails/staples: Use a hammer or rubber mallet to drive them into the perimeter of the turf, spaced about 6–8 inches apart. 6. Trim Excess Edges Use your utility knife to trim any excess turf along the edges for a clean finish. If you’re using edging, place it along the perimeter to create a neat border. 7. Fill with Sand (Optional) Some artificial grass systems require filling with sand to provide weight and stability. Use a broom to spread the sand evenly over the surface, brushing it into the fibers. Be sure to fill in any gaps in the grass, but avoid overfilling. 8. Brush and Groom the Turf Once the turf is in place and secure, use a broom or power brush to lift the fibers and make the grass look more natural. Brush the fibers in different directions to ensure they stand up properly. 9. Final Inspection Walk around the entire area to make sure the turf is properly secured and evenly spread. Ensure there are no visible gaps or wrinkles, and everything looks uniform. 10. Maintenance Regularly brush the turf to keep it looking fresh. Rinse off any debris or dirt using a hose. Periodically check for any loose edges and re-secure them if necessary. Related Discover more from CheaperFence Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email. Type your email… Subscribe
